September School Holiday Activities: Fun for the Whole Family

Holiday Haven
25 Sep 2024

School holidays are the best time to plan an unforgettable family getaway. Whether you're after adventure, relaxation, or a mix of both, we’ve put together some of our favorite activities to keep everyone entertained during your stay. Our parks like to treat our guests to some special in-park activities to ensure you come back year after year. To find out who is offering what - head to your favourite park’s social page to see what’s in store!

For those new to the region, we've got you covered with a few must-try activities. With a variety of accommodtation types in stunning locations across South Coast, New South Wales, there’s something for kids, parents and grandparents to enjoy!

Explore the Great Outdoors – Bushwalks and Nature Trails

Spring is the perfect time to immerse yourself in the natural beauty in and around each of our parks. If you're staying at Holiday Haven Currarong, head to Abrahams Bosom Beach which is the start of the popular Wreck Walk and Coomies Walking track.  These trails are great for families, with stunning coastal views and easy access to some of the South Coast’s most pristine beaches.

We have two beachfront locations in Huskisson, one of the busiest hubs on the South Coast. If you’re staying at Holiday Haven Huskisson Beach or Holiday Haven White Sands, get off the beaten track (tip: avoid going to Hyams Beach during the holidays - it is tough to find parking!), and instead spend a day exploring picturesque Booderee National Park and the only Aboriginal owned botanic gardens in Australia - Booderee Botanic Gardens.

Alternatively, at Holiday Haven Burrill Lake or  Holiday Haven Lake Tabourie, explore Meroo National Park, which offers peaceful bushwalks and a chance to spot kangaroos and local birdlife. There’s nothing quite like a stroll through the native bushland in springtime, with wildflowers blooming and wildlife waking up after winter.

Our Holiday Haven Tip: Make it a learning experience for the kids by turning it into a wildlife-spotting adventure. Who can find the most kookaburras or spot a kangaroo?

Family Fun Day – Something for Everyone

Get those arms and legs pumping vertically at Indoor Climbing South Coast. Later replenish your calories with some cupcake decorating at Huskisson Bakery Cafe (bookings required!).

Make sure you check out Jervis Bay Brewery who is so dog-friendly they even have a dog wall of fame. Maybe your pooch will make it up there too!

For water-loving families, Holiday Haven Swan Lake offers excellent opportunities for stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, or fishing along Swan Lake. Pack your beach gear, hire some water sports equipment, and enjoy a day of splashing in the sun.

Our Holiday Haven Tip: Many of our parks offer beachfront BBQs and picnic facilities, so pack a lunch and enjoy an al fresco meal with ocean views!

Get Creative with Arts and Crafts – Holiday Haven Style

When you need a break from the sun or if a rainy day rolls in, our communal spaces are perfect for some arts and crafts fun. Set up a crafting session with the kids using locally collected materials like seashells, driftwood, and leaves to create nature-inspired artworks. At Holiday Haven Shoalhaven Heads, we recommend taking a short walk to Seven Mile Beach, where you’ll find bits of driftwood and natural beauty to inspire you for your next creative project.

Bonus: Take a trip to nearby Berry and pick up some supplies from local markets, including artisanal paints and crafts for the perfect crafting day indoors! Check out this fabulous Nature Play Days for kids aged 4-14yrs from Green Mountain Nature Play where your child can develop bushcraft skills, share stories, play games, make art while making new friends!

Adventure Awaits with Local Attractions – Wildlife and Thrills

For an unforgettable day trip, visit Shoalhaven Zoo, located just a short drive from many of our Holiday Haven locations. Here, your kids can get up close with kangaroos, koalas, and even a crocodile or two! It’s a great way for them to learn more about Australia’s native animals while having fun.

For families staying at Holiday Haven Kangaroo Valley, we recommend a canoe ride along the river, great for all ages and skill level! You'll be in good hands with Valley Outdoors who offer fun and educational tours and top-notch instruction. Or hire a kayak just out the back of our park with Kangaroo Valley Kayaks!

Holiday Haven exclusives: Check in with our friendly staff to find out about local discounts or hidden gems in the area that the whole family will enjoy.
