Park Profile: Shoalhaven Heads

Holiday Haven
30 Sep 2022

The northern reaches of the Shoalhaven on the NSW South Coast are defined by three major geographic features – Seven Mile Beach, the Shoalhaven River and Coolangatta Mountain. And where all three meet, you’ll find the idyllic coastal town of Shoalhaven Heads.

With so much to do both locally and nearby, and an easy drive to get you there, it’s the perfect holiday spot.

Your Holiday Haven

Holiday Haven Shoalhaven Heads enjoys the best of two waterfronts – facing the ocean at Seven Mile Beach as well as the Shoalhaven River.  Accommodation options include a range of fully self-contained waterfront cabins and picturesque powered sites for camping and caravans. Each cabin has its own covered deck, and there are even dog-friendly options, including purpose-designed cabins with their own fenced yards!

Of course, there’s plenty more to do beyond your cabin, with a kid’s playground and jumping pillow ensuring squeals of delight. Families will also love the mini golf, half-tennis court and solar heated pool with aquatic playground in the warmer months. And why venture further afield, when the entertainment can come to you thanks to the covered cinema area – a real hit all year round.

Then there is the location itself – facing the water and inviting you to partake in a swim off the jetty or enjoy a short walk through to the crashing waves on the ocean side. It’s all here!

Shoalhaven Zoo

Local Attractions

You won’t be short of activities in the surrounding areas. Families in particular will love the close proximity to Nowra’s Trees Adventure ziplining and ropes course, conveniently located alongside Shoalhaven Zoo to help you make a day of it.

You’ll be spoilt for choice at the range of local wineries nearby – including the iconic structures of Silos Wine Estate, the historic Coolangatta Estate in the shadow of its namesake mountain, Two Figs winery overlooking the Shoalhaven River and Cambewarra Estate, with its High Tea, cheese platters and excellent cellar door. Want someone else to do the driving? Hop aboard one of the many winery tours and sit back and sample the best the region has to offer!

Berry Donut Van

Holidaying can be hungry work, and the nearby village of Berry offers a basketful of delights – with weekly farmers’ markets on Thursday afternoons plus popular cafes including Milkwood Bakery, The Hungry Monkey and the impossibly simple but oh-so-tasty famous Berry Donut Van (join the queues on busy weekends and holidays!). Or you can stay closer to home, with fun options that include local woodfired pizza favourite Pizza LOCO! or fine dining in the acclaimed Bangalay Dining just a few minutes from your Holiday Haven accommodation.

Finally, immerse yourself in natural beauty right on your doorstep at Shoalhaven Botanic Gardens. Free to explore (donations welcome), you’ll find a large range of Australian native plants on display, including rare, endangered and bush tucker plants, beautiful walking paths and bird life.

You’ll Heart the Heads

From the ocean to the river, and everything in between, Shoalhaven Heads is not only the perfect meeting place of land and sea but also a great place to gather and make special holiday memories. Head for the Heads!
