Abrahams Bosom Reserve

Beecroft Peninsula, Currarong, New South Wales, 2540

Ever since the first sailing ships began to travel the Australian east coast, their captains have referred to Beecroft Headland as Abrahams Bosom, an Old Testament reference to safety, as the area afforded shelter to vessels plying the coast in turbulent weather.

The beautiful Abrahams Bosom Walking Track winds its way around Beecroft Headland near Currarong on the NSW South Coast.

A popular spot with locals and visitors alike, the 9km walk passes through coastal heath and sandstone cliffs with magnificent views up and down the coastline.

Accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels, dog owners and bicycle riders (no motor bikes or 4WDs), the track has several spots ideal for fishing, picnicking and snorkelling.

Long Beach

Long Beach is a two kilometres long white sand beach on Beecroft Peninsula with stunning turquoise water. It can be accessed from a car park on either end of the beach. The beach faces south-west which means it is often protected from the wind when most beaches on the East Coast are exposed.

Gosang's Tunnel

Hidden amongst the shrubbery of Point Perpendicular you will find a small hole in the rocks just big enough for an adult to crawl through and about 20 metre long. If you crawl through the cave you will pop out on to breathtakingly beautiful sea cliffs on the other side. You can find the tunnel by following the walking track at Abraham's Bosom Reserve in Currarong, it takes about an hour return.

Point Perpendicular Lighthouse

Drive through natural scrub and beautiful spring wildflowers to Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, and the spectacular escarpment at Jervis Bay. There is no access to the inside of the lighthouse, but the view from the grounds of the lighthouse alone, makes this drive worthwhile.

The light station was a major coastal light in a network of navigational aids operated and maintained by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. It has now been replaced by a new lighthouse, but the building remains and is of historic significance.

The gravel road to the lighthouse may deteriorate during bad weather and at times the road is closed because of Naval gunnery training exercises.

Paddle Boarding

Fanatic Performance SUP Hire on the south coast is now available at the small village of Currarong which is located at the northern edge of the dramatic Beecroft Peninsula which adjoins Jervis Bay Marine Park and is 33 km south-east of Nowra.

Although Currarong is a little out of the way it is one of the most spectacular paddling destinations this country has to offer. Surrounded by 14 white sand beaches, including Long Beach, Cabbage Tree Beach and the perfectly horse-shoe shaped Honeymoon Bay, Currarong is quite simply the perfect paddling destination and offers options for all levels of riders from absolute beginners to advanced paddlers.

Currarong is also a world class rock, beach and ocean fishing location and boasts one of the few land based locations in Australia where Yellow Fin Tuna and Marlin can be caught, so if your a fisho' and a paddler this place is perfect.

Kayaking

The waters of the Shoalhaven are a paddling heaven with its extensive network of rivers, estuaries, lakes and beaches. The world is a gentler place when viewed from a kayak skimming over some of the cleanest water on the planet and exploring nature’s best-kept secrets. Pack a lunch and explore the local marine life, sea cliffs, beaches, bays and inlets around the scenic coastline of Currarong. Launch your kayak directly from the park for your ocean experience or a short drive to Honeymoon Bay to experience Jervis Bay.

Shoalhaven Zoo

Shoalhaven Zoo is the largest zoo on the New South Wales South Coast, bringing together over 100 species of native and exotic mammals, birds, and reptiles. Set in 16 acres of native bushland and resting on the banks of the beautiful Shoalhaven River, you'll find plenty to see and do during your visit.
