9 tee-riffic Shoalhaven Golf Courses to try

Holiday Haven
09 Mar 2023

No matter what experience level of golfer you are, hitting the greens in a new location can provide a refreshing change of pace and a chance to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Each course has its own unique layout, challenges, and scenery, making every round a new and exciting adventure.

Whether it’s a round near the beach, riverside course or a manicured oasis amongst the Aussie landscape, the Shoalhaven puts the ‘par’ into ‘paradise’! Be sure to check out the following (front) 9 courses next time you visit.

Kangaroo Valley Golf & Country Club
Set in the picturesque Kangaroo Valley, this undulating course was originally designed by Jack Newton and later extended to provide 18 holes and a Championship 71-par course. There are plenty of testing greens and water hazards to challenge all levels, and the beauty of this pristine course among the trees is quite a sight – especially late in the afternoon as the sun glows on the valley walls.

Nowra Golf Club
Perfectly perched on the northern side of the Shoalhaven River (just upstream from the new bridge), this 18-hole course is a destination in its own right – with dining venues and entertainment on site. Established in 1954, it makes the most of its beautiful setting, with stunning views of the river and a challenging layout (particularly the back nine) that will call on precise shot-making.

Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club
This 18-hole, par-71 course is adjacent to the beach and alongside the village of Shoalhaven Heads. As you play its natural links holes, you’ll enjoy scenic views of the ocean and the surrounding countryside. Long regarded as a must-do course by golfing enthusiasts, it is known for its fast greens and challenging, strategic bunkers.

Callala Country Golf Club
Part of the Club Callala complex, this course features breathtaking views and a comfortable atmosphere near the white sands of this tranquil bay (a very different kind of sand trap!). The park-like location sees native wildlife such as kangaroos and water birds roam freely across 18 challenging holes. You’ll also spot plentiful birdlife, including parrots, lorikeets, corellas and cockatoos. A good course for all levels.

Worrigee Links Golf Course
Located just out of Nowra on Greenwell Point Road, this popular course features 18 holes, Par 70 layout, undulating greens and wide fairways surrounded by bunkers – with panoramic scenic views throughout. Skilled pros are on hand for lessons, while The Growers offers dining options for golfers and non-golfers alike.

Vincentia Golf Club
Located in a bushland setting that enjoys picturesque views of Jervis Bay, this 18-hole course is known for its tight fairways and challenging greens. It is also a friendly and welcoming environment for golfers of all skill levels, from experienced players to those new to the sport. With hire clubs and carts available, it’s the perfect place to start your golfing journey.

St Georges Basin Country Club
The sister club to Vincentia, this 18-hole course is set in a tranquil bushland setting, with abundant wildlife and scenic views of St Georges Basin. It is known for its challenging layout (particularly the par-5 16th) and you’ll have a good chance of seeing some of the furry locals on course during your round. The onsite Pro Shop also caters to all your needs.

Sussex Inlet Golf Course
Boasting a friendly small club atmosphere, this welcoming 9-hole golf course is a fantastic option for a leisurely round. As well as the clubhouse, you can also enjoy a BBQ area and Pro Shop, where you can hire buggies, carts and clubs. Be sure to look out for local wildlife on the course too!

Mollymook Golf Club
This established club has two courses – the “old” Hilltop Course – a challenging 18-hole course that sits (as the name suggests) up on the hill above Mollymook, with elevated views of the coast. Alternatively, try the 9-hole Beachside Course located at the southern end of the beach – a great place for beginners. Mollymook Golf Club offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for members and guests.

19th Hole - Mollymook Golf Club

And don’t forget the 19th hole
All of these clubs feature some kind of clubhouse or dining options to allow you to enjoy a meal and drink after your round – in fact, for many golfers, it’s their favourite hole! Alternatively, if you’re looking to swing by somewhere that’s ‘out of bounds’, consider taking a drop from nearby local wineries. Some favourites are featured here.
